Configuring the TrustistEcommerce Payment Gateway for WooCommerce

This guide explains how to set up TrustistEcommerce as a payment option in your WooCommerce checkout.

Use this after the TrustistEcommerce WordPress plugin has been installed and connected with your API keys.

Before You Start

You will need:

  • A WordPress website
  • WooCommerce installed and active
  • The TrustistEcommerce WordPress plugin installed and active
  • Your TrustistEcommerce API keys added in the plugin settings
  • A successful connection test in the TrustistEcommerce plugin settings

If you have not installed the main plugin yet, follow this guide first:

https://trustisttransfer.com/docs/trustistecommerce-wordpress-plugin-documentation/

Opening the WooCommerce Payment Settings

  1. Sign in to your WordPress admin dashboard.

  2. Go to WooCommerce.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Select the Payments tab.

  5. Find TrustistEcommerce Payment Gateway in the list of payment methods.

  6. Select the gateway to open its settings.

Depending on your version of WooCommerce, the button may say Manage, Set up, or you may need to select the payment method name.

Enabling the Gateway

In the TrustistEcommerce payment gateway settings, find Enable TrustistEcommerce Gateway.

Tick this box to make TrustistEcommerce available to customers at checkout.

If this is not ticked, customers will not be able to choose TrustistEcommerce as a payment option.

Setting the Checkout Title

The Title is the name customers see at checkout.

The default title is:

TrustistEcommerce

You can leave this as it is, or change it to something clearer for your customers.

Examples:

  • TrustistEcommerce
  • Pay by Bank or Card
  • Secure Payment
  • Open Banking or Card Payment

Setting the Checkout Description

The Description is the text customers see under the payment option at checkout.

The default description is:

Pay using TrustistEcommerce

You can change this to explain what the customer is selecting.

Example:

Pay securely using TrustistEcommerce Open Banking or card payment.

Keep the wording short and easy to understand.

Test Mode

The Enable Test Mode setting is used for testing payments before going live.

When Test Mode is switched on, the gateway uses sandbox API keys.

Use Test Mode when:

  • You are setting up the payment gateway for the first time
  • You want to test the checkout
  • You want to check that orders update correctly
  • You are not ready to take real customer payments yet

Switch Test Mode off only when you are ready to take live payments.

Saving the Settings

After updating the gateway settings:

  1. Check that the gateway is enabled.

  2. Check the title and description.

  3. Check whether Test Mode should be on or off.

  4. Select Save changes.

TrustistEcommerce should now be available as a payment option in your WooCommerce checkout.

What Customers See at Checkout

When the gateway is enabled, customers will see TrustistEcommerce as a payment option during checkout.

When they choose TrustistEcommerce and place their order:

  1. WooCommerce creates the order.

  2. The plugin creates a TrustistEcommerce payment request.

  3. The customer is sent to the TrustistEcommerce payment page.

  4. The customer completes the payment using the available payment methods.

Depending on your account settings, this may include Open Banking, card payments, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

When a WooCommerce order is created, the plugin creates a payment link for that order.

If a payment link has already been created for the order, the plugin may reuse the existing payment link rather than creating a new one.

This helps keep the payment connected to the correct WooCommerce order.

Order Status Updates

The plugin updates the WooCommerce order after the payment result is received.

If the payment is successful, the order will be updated to a paid status such as Processing or Completed.

If the payment fails or is not completed, the order will not be treated as successfully paid.

Do not fulfil the order until the WooCommerce order shows that the payment has been completed successfully.

Order Notes

The plugin can add notes to the WooCommerce order.

These notes may include payment information such as:

  • Payment status
  • Payment ID
  • Payment result
  • Other details returned by TrustistEcommerce

Order notes are useful if you need to check what happened with a payment.

Cart Handling

After a successful payment, the customer’s basket is cleared as part of the completed checkout process.

If the payment fails or the customer does not complete it, they may be returned to checkout so they can try again.

Testing Before Going Live

Before taking live payments, test the full checkout journey.

Check that:

  • TrustistEcommerce appears as a payment option
  • The title and description make sense to customers
  • Test Mode is switched on while testing
  • The customer is sent to the TrustistEcommerce payment page
  • WooCommerce creates an order
  • The order status updates correctly after payment
  • Failed or cancelled payments are handled correctly
  • Order notes show the expected payment information

Once you are happy that everything works, switch Test Mode off and save the settings.

Going Live

Before going live, check that:

  • Your TrustistTransfer onboarding has been completed and approved
  • Your live API keys have been added in the TrustistEcommerce plugin settings
  • The plugin connection test is successful
  • Test Mode is switched off in the WooCommerce gateway settings
  • The TrustistEcommerce gateway is enabled

After this, customers can use TrustistEcommerce for real payments through WooCommerce.

WooCommerce Subscriptions

TrustistEcommerce can support WooCommerce subscriptions where the plugin, your website, and your merchant account are configured for this.

Only use subscriptions if your account has been set up to support them.

If you are unsure, contact TrustistTransfer support before offering subscription payments to customers.

If TrustistEcommerce Does Not Appear at Checkout

If customers cannot see TrustistEcommerce at checkout, check that:

  • The TrustistEcommerce WordPress plugin is installed and active
  • WooCommerce is installed and active
  • The TrustistEcommerce API keys have been added
  • The plugin connection test is successful
  • The WooCommerce gateway is enabled
  • The product can be purchased through WooCommerce
  • Test Mode is set correctly for the type of payment you are trying to take

If Orders Are Not Updating

If WooCommerce orders are not updating after payment, check that:

  • The customer completed the payment
  • The order has a TrustistEcommerce payment ID or order note
  • The plugin is still connected successfully
  • The correct API keys are being used
  • The website is not blocking plugin or server requests

If you are unsure, contact TrustistTransfer support and include the WooCommerce order number.
