Taking Card Payments

This guide explains how to enable and take card payments in TrustistTransfer.

Once card payments are enabled, your customers can pay by credit or debit card. This can include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, depending on the options available on your account.

Card payments are separate from Open Banking payments and are subject to card transaction fees.

Before You Start

Before setting up card payments, make sure:

  • You have access to your TrustistTransfer account
  • Your merchant account is active
  • You are authorised to accept the card payment terms
  • Your account details and business information are up to date

Card payments may require approval before they are available to use.

1. Open Settings

Sign in to TrustistTransfer.

From the home page, open Settings.

You can do this by selecting the settings cog.

2. Find Card Payments Settings

Scroll through the Settings page until you reach Card Payments Settings.

This section shows the current status of card payments on your account.

You may see one of the following:

  • Set up Card Payments means card payments have not been requested yet
  • Card Payments - Pending Approval means your application has been submitted and is being reviewed
  • Enable Card Payments means card payments are approved and can be switched on or off
  • Card Payments Suspended means card payments have been temporarily suspended

3. Set Up Card Payments

Select Set up Card Payments ».

You will be taken to the Card Payments Setup page.

Read the information on screen and tick the box to agree to the Ryft Terms of Service.

Then select Setup ».

Your card payment application will be submitted.

4. Wait for Approval

After submitting the application, your card payments may show as Pending Approval.

This means the application is being reviewed.

You will receive an email notification once card payments are approved and ready to use.

If there is an issue with the application, a member of the team will contact you.

5. Enable Card Payments

Once card payments are approved, return to Settings.

In Card Payments Settings, switch on Enable Card Payments.

This gives your customers the option to pay by card.

You can return to this setting later if you need to switch card payments off.

6. Enable American Express

American Express is set up separately from standard card payments.

Once card payments are available on your account, go to Card Payments Settings and select Set up Amex Payments ».

Read the information on screen and tick the box to agree to the terms.

Then select Setup ».

Once American Express has been enabled, your customers will have the option to pay using American Express.

American Express payments are subject to transaction fees and may have different fees from standard card payments.

7. Take a Card Payment

Once card payments are enabled, create a payment as normal from the payment screen.

Enter the payment details and submit the payment.

Your customer will be shown the available payment options. If card payments are enabled on your account, they can choose to pay by card.

Card payments will appear in your transaction history as Card Payment.

8. Card MOTO Payments

Some accounts may also have Card MOTO Payment available.

MOTO stands for mail order or telephone order. It is used when you are taking a card payment from a customer who is not completing the payment themselves on their own device.

If MOTO payments are enabled on your account, the payment button will let you choose between:

  • Standard Payment
  • Card MOTO Payment

Only use Card MOTO Payment when it is appropriate for the transaction.

Important Information

Card payments are subject to transaction fees.

The minimum payout threshold depends on your account type.

For sole traders, the payout threshold shown during setup may be higher.

If your account uses euros, the threshold will be shown in euros instead.

If card payments are suspended, your Settings page will show Card Payments Suspended. Contact support if you need help.
